Brunch Obsession: Wild Honey

Wheee I’m back. Okay, technically I’m not really “back” because I barely started. That one post in May was my pathetic attempt to start blogging. Anyways, I got motivated to give this another go by two losers Jin and Celin (who’s blog we have not figured out yet) so here goes.

I’m pretty sure there is a brunch epidemic in Singapore because I, along with the rest of the Singaporean population, have contracted an unhealthy obsession with brunch food. There are literally a billion of brunch options all across our tiny island and one of my summer goals is to visit every brunch place possible (yes, I’m very ambitious when it comes to food) and write about them.

So first brunch place: Wild HoneyImage

I’ve only been there twice but I’ve tried a total of 7 of their dishes so I think if I’m not ready to blog about it now, I never will be.

Wild Honey is an all day breakfast diner offering breakfasts from all around the world. The china covered wall, mismatched armchairs and natural lighting create a unique rustic charm that is perfect for breakfast- whether it’s at 9 in the morning or 3 in the afternoon.

The prices are a bit steep but the food is both delicious and filling and if you think about it you’re getting two meals in one (yep that’s what brunch is ladies and gentlemen).

The first time I went was with my mom after my last exam (which was French, good riddance to the IB). I had heard lots about the place so I decided to drag my mother there and I’m so glad I did.

My mom ordered the Corsican which is one of the vegetarian dishes. It’s basically an omelette filled with lots of different cheeses. At first I was a bit skeptical (and annoyed at my mom for not choosing something more adventurous). Like how good can they make an omelette? It’s an omelette. Turns out, Wild Honey’s omelette is not just an omelette. It’s an Omelette. or Omelette! or OMELETTE! Anyways, I’m getting carried away. What I’m trying to say is that the Corsican was easily one of the best omelettes I’ve ever had. The fluffiness is cooked to melt-in-your-mouth perfection which completed the melted goat’s cheese and feta cheese to the T. Plus it came with a grilled ciabatta- my favourite kind of bread.

Usually I’m super indecisive when it comes to ordering food. And all the more when I’m spoilt for choices like I was in Wild Honey.

But for once I decided in 2 minutes (a record time for me). I ordered the Norwegian: two egg Benedict’s, wrapped in smoked salmon, perched on asparagus, doused in Hollandaise sauce with two brioches. Oh I almost forgot the best bit: two avocado halves underneath the asparagus. I couldn’t contain my excitement.

I think the picture speaks for itself.

I was super full after that (I ate some of my mom’s share) but I still had to try the apple pie. It was good, but to be honest it wasn’t anything special. Next time I’ll stick to the mains.

The second time I went to Wild Honey was with my whole family. Obviously my brother went straight for the meat but I manage to convince my parents to share so I could try everything.

I had the caramel latte which was so pretty. A little too sweet though since I made the mistake of drinking it with the waffles. Note to future self – stick to water, or order the latte after the meal.

We ordered the Santa Fé which is similar to Huevos Rancheros: two tortilla wraps filled with cheddar, tomato, salsa and each topped with fried egg, sour cream, red onion, corn and AVOCADOS (sorry about that. but if you haven’t noticed from earlier in this post and my previous post, I am slightly addicted to avocados)

Next up is the Boulevard St Michel. Even the name sounds delicious. This one was savoury French toast with baked cheese, spinach soufflé, parmesan crumbled poached egg, slow roasted tomatoes, bacon and tomato chutney. Yum.

We finished off with the Caribbean which was coconut waffles with passion fruit cream, bananas, mango slices and passionfruit syrup. I’m really glad I didn’t go for the Brittany, though it sounded amazing, because that sounded really sweet and heavy and I definitely wouldn’t have been able to enjoy it on top of the two savoury dishes. The Caribbean was light and fruity – perfect to finish off a meal.

All in all Wild Honey has the perfect atmosphere and food. Despite the price I am definitely going back time and time again. My favourites are still the Norwegian and the Corsican. I have vowed to always have at least one dish with either a poached egg or an omelette every time I eat there because those are unarguably the highlights.
